BAC+5 Internship - Data Science & Bioinformatics (Genomic Data Quality Control) - M/F/D
Marcy l'Etoile, 69, FR
A global leader in in vitro diagnostics for more than 60 years, bioMérieux provides diagnostic solutions that identify the source of disease or contamination to improve patient health and ensure consumer safety.
Joining bioMérieux means choosing a family-owned, people-centered company driven by a long-term vision and committed to serving public health worldwide.
Each intern is supported by an experienced and trained mentor. They benefit from regular guidance and evaluation, helping them develop their skills and prepare for their future professional career.
The intern will join the Data Science department and contribute to the improvement of a metagenomic sequencing data analysis pipeline. Data Quality Control (QC) plays a key role in the development of Machine Learning algorithms as well as in the validation of generated results.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of bioinformatics, genomics, and artificial intelligence within a leading in vitro diagnostics company.
The intern will collaborate with Data Science teams based in France and the United States to optimize quality control strategies applied to Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data and contribute to the continuous improvement of data analysis and reporting processes.
What will be your mission at bioMérieux?
Under the supervision of a Data Scientist, the intern will:
- Organize and structure large WGS datasets for bioinformatics analyses and quality metrics reporting.
- Develop reproducible and shareable code to analyze genomic datasets.
- Collaborate with members of the France-US Data Science team on technical developments and methodological approaches.
- Summarize and communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
- Define quality control criteria for the curation of Machine Learning training datasets.
- Define quality control criteria to verify and validate results generated by Machine Learning models.
Who are you?
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree (Bac+5 / MSc) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience analyzing Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data and a strong interest in microbial genomics.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, and version control tools such as GitHub.
- Knowledge of Machine Learning approaches and best practices for reproducible data analysis.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve complex data-driven problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in an international and collaborative environment.
Eligible for an internship starting in January 2027.
Location: Marcy l'Étoile, France.
Interns receive a monthly allowance from their first month of presence.
The amount of the allowance depends on the student's level of education and is higher than the legal minimum.
Additional benefits:
- Company restaurant with employer contribution.
- 100% reimbursement of public transportation subscription costs or a transportation allowance.
