About the Role

We are opening a new Trade Compliance Manager position for China to support with the growth and ambition of bioMérieux in this country and strengthen our Global Trade Compliance team. In this role, you will act as a recognized subject matter expert in Customs and Export Control and contribute to maintaining an effective, compliant, and efficient customs and trade framework while supporting projects and day‑to‑day operations.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external authorities to ensure our practices comply with global and local regulations. The role does not include people management responsibilities but requires the ability to coach, influence, and collaborate across teams. Reports directly to the Global Trade Compliance Officer.

Main Responsibilities

Customs & Trade Compliance Role and Responsibility

·       Support with customs‑related activities including HS classification, country‑of‑origin determination, and valuation, ensuring systems and documentation are accurate and up to date.

·       Support import and export operations by identifying required licenses, permits, and regulatory constraints.

·       Assess impacts of trade policies

·       Manage escalation on third‑party screenings as part of the Know‑Your‑Customer and due‑diligence processes.

·       Assess compliance risks linked to suppliers, customers, and partners and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.

Compliance Programs & Internal Controls

·       Contribute to internal audits, documentation updates, and continuous improvement of customs procedures.

·       Develop, update, and improve work instructions, SOPs, and operational guidance to ensure clarity and compliance.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

·       Provide expertise and guidance on projects with trade compliance implications.

·       Act as a resource to business teams on import/export matters and participate in company projects where trade compliance is in scope.

Regulatory watch, risk assessment & Continuous Improvement

·       Monitor regulatory developments in and with China and propose improvements to internal processes while ensuring controlled risk levels.

·       Identify opportunities within regulatory frameworks to optimize trade flows in compliance with applicable rules.

Profile & Qualifications

Education & Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

·       Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in international trade and customs —preferably in the healthcare or regulated industry.

·       Proven expertise in trade compliance disciplines (classification, origin, customs valuation, export controls).

·       Experience working or studying abroad, or significant professional exposure outside China

·       Experience in a multinational company or regulated industry is an advantage.

·       Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.

·       Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple topics, and prioritize based on risk.

·       High level of integrity and good judgment.

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support and guide stakeholders at various levels.

·       Comfortable working in a cross‑functional, international environment with diverse teams.

·       Ability to challenge existing practices and contribute to process improvements.

·       Fluent in English; knowledge of other regional languages is an asset.
