Assistant Category Manager - Direct Material

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB

To lead Category strategy at site level (manage the local suppliers, ensure contracts’ compliance, manage suppliers’ performance) and to implement the sourcing strategy for the Category he/she works for.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Take charge of  sourcing (e.g., RFI/RFQ/RFP, reverse auctions,  direct negotiations, multi-years contracts in accordance/agreement with the critical suppliers);
Work closely with local Operations supporting the local business and delivering a variety of Procurement activities to ensure materials availability to the operations timely and accurately;
Improve total cost of ownership of locally sourced materials, improve cash flow through actual cost savings, cost avoidances, inflation mitigation, or efficiency gains as validated by the Global Procurement, Finance person and business partner;
Responsible for the Direct Material Spend (Chemistry, Biological, Plastic, Package etc) for respective manufacturing locations in China; deliver cost improvement targets of spend pool, mitigate the inflation and risks.
Take charge of supplier performance evaluation (On time, on Quality, General Compliance) through frequent monitoring & periodic Quality audit, enhance the Zero Defect mindset at vendors in China and implement related project to improve the quality;
Identify and implement methods to reduce cycle times, improve supplier performance and optimize supply network through Lean initiatives;
Support the global category team to develop sourcing strategy and deploy the strategies for commodities and local suppliers;
Other tasks as defined in related company procedure, or assigned by the direct supervisor (like audits, global project);

KNOWLEDGE, LANGUAGE AND EXPERIENCE

1.    Bachelor degree(Prefer Chemical, Biological background ); instrument and medical background preferred
2.    8+ years’ experience in Procurement Direct Material, especially for manufacturing Direct material area; Global sourcing experience in MNC preferred
3.    Skill of selecting & qualifying suppliers, understanding products/services, preparing & leading negotiation, total cost management, target costing, planning & organizing, managing multicultural interface
4.    Good command of Ms Office – Excel/Word/Powerpoint
5.    Experience with SAP is a plus
6.    Good command of English in both oral and written
7.    Teamwork, detail and facts oriented 
8.    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
