Business Development Manager - Ontario
Position Summary
Drive adoption and profitable growth of the High Medical Impact portfolio by identifying, developing, and advancing clinical and commercial opportunities beyond the laboratory setting, engaging key healthcare stakeholders, securing funding, and creating demand across existing and emerging care settings. In partnership with the Account Leader, the Business Development Manager shares accountability for achieving territory revenues, placement, utilization, and customer retention objectives. The Business Development Manager leads demand generation, stakeholder engagement, market development, and adoption acceleration.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, qualify, and prioritize growth opportunities by assessing patient populations, testing patterns, clinical pathways, funding availability, and unmet diagnostic needs.
- Develop and maintain a robust opportunity funnel, ensuring timely opportunity qualification, progression tracking, and alignment with territory growth objectives.
- Engage and influence key clinical, administrative, public health, and procurement stakeholders, while partnering with Account Leaders to coordinate laboratory stakeholder engagement.
- Build and strengthen relationships with infectious disease physicians, emergency medicine leaders, antimicrobial stewardship teams, pharmacists, and healthcare decision-makers.
- Serve as a strategic liaison between laboratory and clinical stakeholders to facilitate alignment on diagnostic stewardship initiatives and patient management pathways.
- Identify and leverage funding opportunities, budget reallocations, grants, and alternative reimbursement mechanisms to support implementation and expansion of our High Medical Impact solutions.
- Proactively identify and address clinical, operational, financial, and organizational barriers that may limit diagnostic utilization and adoption.
- Support development of business cases, health-economic value propositions, and outcome-based discussions that demonstrate the clinical and economic impact of our testing solutions.
- Contribute to tender preparation, specification development, stakeholder engagement, and competitive positioning activities to strengthen bioMérieux's position in procurement processes.
- Drive utilization growth, protocol adoption, and expansion opportunities within existing customers to maximize long-term value and customer retention.
- Partner with the Account Leader on territory planning and opportunity execution, sharing accountability for achieving annual target revenues, placement, and utilization objectives.
- Develop opportunities in emerging and non-traditional healthcare settings, including long-term care, community care, public health, and integrated healthcare networks, to expand the reach and adoption of bioMérieux solutions.
- Conduct all activities in compliance with company policies, Quality standards, and Health & Safety requirements.
Qualifications
Required Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or Business is required
- 2+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within the in vitro diagnostics (IVD), pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences industries.
- In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, six (6) years of relevant experience, as defined above, is required
Preferred Education, Training and Experience
- Experience in infectious disease, molecular diagnostics, microbiology, antimicrobial therapy, or another related clinical area.
- Demonstrated experience in a new-business development or “hunter” role, including prospecting, developing net-new customer relationships, creating qualified opportunities, and advancing opportunities through the sales cycle.
- Experience developing business and/or selling to key infectious disease-related call points, including clinicians/physicians, pharmacists, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC/IPC) professionals, Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) teams, and other clinical or administrative healthcare decision-makers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Consistently upholds and reflects the core ethical principles and values that bioMérieux promotes.
- Skilled in MS Office tools to include but not limited to Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel
Working Conditions
- Ability to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
- Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery.
- Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
- Domestic travel required: 70% of time
- International travel required: 5% of time
- Total travel required: 75% of time
Compensation
We offer a competitive compensation package, determined by the scope of the role, level of experience, geographic location, internal consideration, and relevant market benchmarks. The indicative annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 per year.
Final compensation will be determined based on individual experience and alignment with the role. Bonus eligibility and payout are subject to both individual and company performance, in accordance with the applicable incentive plan.
